What is the NDIS?

The NDIS is a new way of providing funding and supports to people with disability, this will replace funding previously given by Disability SA. Under this system, the funding you need for support services will be allocated to you, not a service provider. That means you have more choice and control over your support.

The Australian Government launched the NDIS in 2013 and it is being progressively rolled out across the country.

Your existing services and supports will remain in place until the NDIS is introduced to your area or made available to your age group.

When it is your turn to transition to NDIS, a representative from the NDIA will contact either you or your nominated supporter. You will not need to contact the NDIA.

For more information, or support to apply for NDIS funding you can contact Local Area Coordinators- LAC’s presently being overseen by Feros Care. You can contact them on https://www.feroscare.com.au/contact/

Are you eligible for NDIS?

You may be eligible for funding under the NDIS if you:

  • Have a significant and permanent disability
  • Are aged between 0-64 years old
  • Require early intervention
  • Are an Australian citizen.
  • To find out if you are eligible, call the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) on 1800 800 110 or read the NDIS Access Checklist at this link https://ndis.gov.au/ndis-access-checklist.html
  • If you are eligible, you will need to complete the Access request form and send them to the NDIA for processing.

What does permanent and significant disability mean?

You have a permanent and significant disability if your impairment is, or is likely to be permanent (i.e. it is likely to be life-long) and substantially reduces your ability to participate effectively in social or economic activities or perform tasks or actions without the help of other people or technology or equipment (other than common items such as glasses).
